The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) is setting up a new initiative to distribute smartphones to women who are part of their cash assistance program. This initiative is designed to enhance the way payments are made, aiming to make the process transparent and respectful towards the beneficiaries.

Rubina Khalid, the chairperson of BISP, recently held discussions with representatives from JazzCash, a mobile wallet service. There is no need of new registration to get smartphone in BISP Kafalat Program. All Registered females will get mobile phones through BISP Tehsil Offices.

During the meeting, the JazzCash team presented several potential ideas for collaboration, aiming to improve the services offered to BISP beneficiaries. In response, BISP officials requested that the JazzCash team prepare a comprehensive plan to foster digital empowerment among the program’s recipients.

Ms. Khalid explained that she has been directed by both the president and the prime minister to enhance the transparency of the BISP payment system and to make it more user-friendly for the beneficiaries. By providing smartphones, BISP hopes to bridge the communication gap between the organization and the women it supports. This digital empowerment is seen as crucial for enabling the women to be better informed about their rights and to reduce the possibility of fraudulent activities affecting their payments.

Moreover, the chairperson reiterated BISP’s commitment to not only providing financial support but also enhancing the lives of its beneficiaries through skills training that aligns with current market needs. This approach aims to provide more than just financial aid; it seeks to equip women with the skills necessary to thrive in the workforce.
